Waiting on the Hand of the Lord

That all may see and know, observe and understand, that the hand of the Lord has done this, the Holy One of Israel has created it. (Is 41:20)

In this chapter of Isaiah, Israel is compared to a worm or a maggot. So great is God that his people – the apple of his eye – are but a mere annelid in comparison to his magnificence. No creature can even come close to his splendor.

I can’t imagine picking a maggot up out of the slime and caring for it night and day as though it were my most cherished possession. That sounds ridiculous! Yet that’s exactly what God does for me, a member of his people. I am his creation and with the might of his hand he opens rivers, turns the desert into marshlands, and the dry lands into springs of water for my sake.

Mary, I’m really nothing compared to God. Still, he loves me more than my human mind could ever comprehend. Help me, please, to wait upon his hand so that one day I’ll see the dry lands turned into springs of water.
