I’m an experienced and efficient copy editor and, surprise, surprise, I actually like doing it! Although I leave the heavy-duty jobs to full-time copy editors, I can easily fit light- to moderate copy editing into my schedule. Here are some basic guidelines; we can consider it more thoroughly when we chat in person:
For light copy editing, I ask $2 per page. For moderate copy editing, I ask $3 per page.
I’ll need the manuscript emailed to me as a Microsoft Word document. Please do not submit documents with high-resolution images inserted – it’ll be a headache for both of us!
After I’ve reviewed the manuscript, I can offer you a quote. Once you’ve accepted the quote, we’ll put together a simple contract that’s agreeable to both of us. I ask 50% of the fee as deposit, and the remainder upon completion of the work. We’ll set a reasonable deadline (which cannot change once work has begun on the manuscript), and I’ll give you updates on my progress as I proceed with the editing.
Light copy editing includes:
- Typographical errors
- Grammar
- Punctuation
- Consistency
Moderate copy editing includes:
- The above, plus…
- Word choice
- Flow
- Tone
- Clarity
- Point-of-view
- Tense
- Sentence structure
I look forward to working with you, and to providing you with the service, accuracy, and respect you deserve.
