Sacred Hands

I’m in awe of the hands of priests.

They’ve been blessed, anointed, and are the instruments of the Consecration and Transubstantiation of the Mass. The priest holds the Body and Blood of Christ in his hands, and with those same hands distributes the Eucharist to us.

Priests’ hands are sacred.

So, when I think if the Eleventh Station: Jesus is Nailed to the Cross, I think of our Lord’s hands.

During his lifetime, Jesus used his hands to build along side of St. Joseph and work along side of his Blessed Mother. He blessed, prayed, and healed with his hands. His hands waved hello to friends, and multiplied loaves and fishes to feed the multitudes.

Jesus’ hands are sacred.

Then, at the end of his life, as he humbly stretched out his arms, his hands were nailed to the Cross so that you and I might be given Life. And at every Mass, his hands are again nailed to the Cross so that we might receive his Precious Body and Blood in holy Communion.

While they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and after a blessing, He broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” (Mt 26:26)
