Today I set out on the next leg of my Marian Pilgrimage: Discovering Mary Across the USA.

I’m headed to Santa Clara, California to visit Our Lady of Peace Shrine. It’s the only major Marian Shrine on the West Coast between Our Lady of Sorrows Shrine in Portland, Oregon, (over 700 miles to the north), and the famous Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City, (over 2,300 miles to the south). When the parish and shrine were established in 1961, the location was out in the boonies, so to speak. Since then, Silicon Valley has grown up around it, making it an oasis of peace and grace.

The Shrine is tended and administrated by the priests of the Institute of the Incarnate Word (IVE) with support of their female branch, the Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matara (SSVM)—a religious family who have taken the vows of poverty, chastity, obedience, and slavery to Mary.

I’m eager to visit it! I’m also eager to bring you along with me, via this blog and my social media and to carry your prayer requests with me in order to place them before Our Lady of Peace in her shrine.

Are you ready? I certainly am!

Thank you Marge for your Marian Pilgrimage and the photo of Our Lady of Peace. I have been trying to remember when and where I saw a large, beautiful, stainless steel statue of Mary and where she was going. Wow–there she was in my email this morning. Then I remembered seeing her at Italian Fest in Milwaukee, one of the stops on her journey to California. Amazing. Must be the Holy Spirit at work. God Bless you, Marge, and thank you for all you do for us. You are a gift from God.
