“Do not fear what may happen tomorrow. The same loving Father who cares for you today will care for you tomorrow and every day. Either He will shield you from suffering, or He will give you unfailing strength to bear it. Be at peace, then, and put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginings.”
– St. Francis de Sales
These words from St. Francis de Sales are apropos For our present situation. We’re at a delicate tipping point in the 2020 Election and it may take some days before we reach clarity and an official winner is announced. Perhaps, like me, you’ve spent the last few days and nights pouring over reliable news sites and social media accounts with information about ballot counting, suspicion of voting fraud, and then struggling through restless and disrupted sleep cycles. Throughout these days, I kept my little bracelet rosary with me and have kept the prayers going in between the tasks and demands of the day (including as I stood in line at the polls). At the time, I was hopeful that by Wednesday morning we would have a declared winner and God would reveal the next step for our country.
But God has another plan and His plan is always perfect even when it doesn’t make any sense or contains a heavy cross for us. And yet even in this time of turmoil, we are called to be at peace and to be pillars of peace for others. And so I invite you to continue praying the Rosary – not just one, but as many times per day as you can – so that the hearts of our nation will be made peaceful, the truthful results of the election quickly determined, evil defeated, and the United States saved from division and destruction. The threat is real but the power of the Rosary is real as well. Take up your weapon of Truth and Peace and prayed with confidence and fervor.
And when the weight of it all begins to wear you down, then run to your Blessed Mother, let her take you by the hand, pull you into her motherly embrace, and allow yourself to nestle there as she soothes your troubled spirit. She understands turmoil and uncertainty. The Cross is no stranger to her and she can teach you how to bear this one courageously. She will not fail you. She will not fail our country even if for a time we’re asked to bear great suffering.
Our country needs us – now! So please, don’t put that Rosary down!
