Poinsettias in Lent. Ridiculous? Maybe not.

Before we can truly, purely extend mercy, we have to be accepting of mercy ourselves. The fact that we ourselves have been recipients of mercy will make us even better givers of mercy.
If I had lived at that time, if I had been standing along Calvary, would I have known who Jesus really was? I’m not so sure. For that reason, I’m grateful to live in this time and place and to have been gifted with my Catholic faith.
In your own suffering, it might seem as though there is no one who can break through the barriers and offer you comfort and encouragement.

Jesus, by his example, is showing us that there’s no shame in falling.
There’s only shame in not getting up again.
Jesus is Divine Mercy, or Mercy Incarnate. He deserves all honor and glory. In his mercy, he allowed himself to be ridiculed, falsely accused, brutally tortured, and crucified so that you and I might have salvation.
But, who gave him his Body?
The funny thing about crosses is that, for as daunting as they are, they are an invitation. Your cross is an invitation from God to become strengthened, blessed, and redeemed. At first sight, it’s ugly, even horrifying. But the longer you carry it, the more beautiful it becomes. The key is to accept it in faith.
