I stopped making New Year resolutions ages ago. Instead, I choose three Scripture passages to copy, print, and keep handy throughout the year. I review them as often as possible and give them some serious prayer time at least once a month. I keep the printed copy in a conspicuous place because I’m one of those people who remembers things I see better than things I hear or note mentally.
I admire them for their innocence, and that’s not a play on words. While the other known martyrs died for their courage, the Holy Innocents died for simply being born two or less years prior. When they died, they died as innocent as they were at their birth.
I could go on and on about all the “other plans” God has had in store for my family and me, but I think it would get tedious. The plans themselves aren’t all that important. What’s vitally important is that God “othered” our plans, so to speak and we reaped surprising blessings.
