I’ve been thinking quite a bit about the above four points, and praying for understanding and peace in my heart. I still don’t understand this hatred generated by Islamic extremists, and I’m yet to feel especially peaceful about it.
However, I have been inspired to turn toward to Franciscan saints for intercession and guidance.
I learned a great deal in my time at Mayo Clinic, and I’ve no doubt that I’ll learn much more before this is all over. So far, the lesson that most resonates in me is the example of the Mayo founders: Determination, dedication, service, excellence, collaboration, and following God’s inspirations.
I’m not facing the life-threatening obstacles that Gehrig faced, but I am facing some obstacles of my own. And I’ve been asking myself if I could honestly say, I’m the luckiest (wo)man on the face of the earth.
I don’t think I could at first, but I’m getting there, and for the same reasons that Gehrig got there.
I do better and worse at living the Beatitudes, depending on what’s going on in my life at the moment, Sometimes I have a difficult time being merciful, especially in the face of injustice. I’m not always the best peacemaker, particularly when there’s drama involved, I’m fatigued, and I just want to wash my hands of the whole mess. I’m not so sure I ever like to be persecuted.
Right now, it’s this one I most struggle with.
Our Mother’s Immaculate Heart is a great, miraculous gift and she is waiting to give it all to you!
All you need to do is to turn to her and allow your own heart to be opened to hers. It’s that simple.
My life is going to change a bit due to some cervical spine issues – it already has changed some – and perhaps it will change yet a bit more. That’s okay. God’s will be done.
Jesus told St. Margaret Mary, “Look at this Heart which has loved people so much, and yet they do not want to love me in return. Through you, my divine Heart wishes to spread its love everywhere on earth.”
Now I’m asking myself, “How will I respond?”
