Lenten Journey: Living in Spiritual Poverty

When Jesus said, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven,” he was talking about far more than whether we own anything of material value. Undoubtedly, there is great merit in forgoing the things of this world and living in simplicity. But that’s only the tip of the proverbial iceberg. Lent is the time to change our attitude.

St. Valentine’s Day Reminds Us that Our Spouses are Worthy of Reverence

Couples should value each other so much that they actually reverence each other, almost to the point that they could genuflect before their spouses. Because God dwells in their souls, we should treat our spouses as reverently as we do Christ in the tabernacle. Our Lord in the Eucharist is a gift to us and a means for our salvation. So, too, are our spouses, although not in the same form, ontologically speaking.
