I learned a great deal in my time at Mayo Clinic, and I’ve no doubt that I’ll learn much more before this is all over. So far, the lesson that most resonates in me is the example of the Mayo founders: Determination, dedication, service, excellence, collaboration, and following God’s inspirations.
I’m not facing the life-threatening obstacles that Gehrig faced, but I am facing some obstacles of my own. And I’ve been asking myself if I could honestly say, I’m the luckiest (wo)man on the face of the earth.
I don’t think I could at first, but I’m getting there, and for the same reasons that Gehrig got there.
Our Mother’s Immaculate Heart is a great, miraculous gift and she is waiting to give it all to you!
All you need to do is to turn to her and allow your own heart to be opened to hers. It’s that simple.
Jesus told St. Margaret Mary, “Look at this Heart which has loved people so much, and yet they do not want to love me in return. Through you, my divine Heart wishes to spread its love everywhere on earth.”
Now I’m asking myself, “How will I respond?”
In Catholic churches and homes around the world, May altars – special places dedicated to Mary, Mother of God – have been erected. Some have pictures of Mary, some have statues of her. Most have bouquets of flowers and many host a crown of flowers for the Queen, symbols of her beauty, purity, and virtue.

It’s one thing to be thankful for suffering because you can offer it up for the sake of others – people you love, souls in purgatory, or persecuted Christians, for example.
It’s another to see your suffering, and in particular, the parts of you that are suffering, as instruments in praising God and to be truly grateful for their capacity to suffer.
