As often happens when we’re trying to do good, “somebody” has thrown a monkey wrench into the works. My website’s email system is currently experiencing a glitch, delaying my Mary Monday for my subscribers. Rather than hold it back further, I’ve decided to post it on my blog so that even more folks can benefit from this issue. Enjoy!
A Moment with Mary…
On March 19, the Roman Catholic Church celebrates the feast of St. Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. St. Teresa of Avila has said, “I do not remember ever to have asked anything of St. Joseph which he did not obtain for me.” Our Blessed Mother told Venerable Mother Mary of Agreda, “The whole human race has much undervalued the privilege and prerogatives conceded to my blessed husband, St. Joseph. I assure you that he is one of the greatly favored personages in the Divine Presence, and he has immense power to stay the arms of divine vengeance. That which my husband asks of the Lord in Heaven is granted upon earth, and on his intercession depend many extraordinary favors for men.”
Reflecting…
St. Joseph often is referred to as the “silent saint” because not a single word of his is quoted in the Bible. And yet, his actions speak volumes! During these days of the Novena to St. Joseph, it would be ideal to contemplate the various scenes from Scripture involving the Foster Father of Jesus: his betrothal to the Blessed Virgin Mary, patient waiting for clarity after the Annunciation, the trip to Bethlehem and the Nativity, the Presentation, Flight to Egypt, and caring for his family in Nazareth until his death. Ask St. Joseph to reveal himself to you through these Scripture passages and to help you get to know him as the loving and generous spiritual father that he is.
Let’s Pray…
Mother Mary,
Please help me to know more about your Holy Spouse, St. Joseph. Show me how to love him as tenderly as you did and to honor him as he deserves. Increase my devotion to him. I surrender the week ahead to your Immaculate Heart and to the Sacred Heart of your Son, Jesus. Amen.
