Strength for the Family
“It’s good to have sacramentals that remind us to pray, but it’s even better to have a place in our home in which we can pray. ~Strengthening Your Family: A Catholic Approach to Holiness at Home, Chapter Nine: Church in Miniature
Most of us have a place in our homes that’s geared toward entertainment. Some of us have family rooms or basement rec rooms, some of us have entertainment centers, and others arrange their living rooms so that they can comfortably watch television or listen to music. No matter what the set-up, almost all of us have a special place in our homes that’s conducive to relaxing and enjoying some form of entertainment.
Entertainment is an important part of our lives – we all need a break now and then – but prayer should be an even more important part. Yet, many of us don’t even have a place in our homes in which we feel comfortable praying. Why not?

If you don’t have a prayer corner in your home, arrange one. Today. Then, spend 10 minutes there quietly taking in the atmosphere and considering God’s goodness to you. Name three things for which you can give thanks to God. If you already have a prayer corner, do something to make it even more special (even if it’s just dusting off the Virgin Mary picture), and then spend 10 minutes there quietly taking in the atmosphere and considering God’s goodness to you. Name three things for which you can give thanks to God.
