That’s right friends, just a few hours ago, after Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, Pope Benedict XVI announced 22 new cardinals, one of which is Archbishop of New York, Timothy M. Dolan. The other US Archbishop to be named cardinal is Edwin Cardinal O’Brien, former Archbishop of Baltimore. This day, truly, is a grace-filled one for the Church!
Here is the link to “The Gospel in the Digital Age,” the Cardinal-designate’s blog on which he announced his appointment earlier today. http://blog.archny.org/ As with any new appointment, there is tremendous honor, but also tremendous responsibility. I urge to to pray for our newest future Cardinals, but also for all our country’s bishops and clergy. They need our prayerful support now more than ever!
Many of you know that Fenelon Clan has a special attachment to Cardinal-designate Dolan, and I’m deeply grateful to him for having written the foreword to two of my books (When’s God Gonna Show Up? and Strengthening Your Family: A Catholic Approach to Holiness at Home) and one of my devotionals (Ecce Mater Tua – Behold, Your Mother: Marian Stations of the Cross). Additionally, he’s been a great supporter of my work, and that’s something precious to me. We had the tremendous honor of receiving visits to our home from Archbishop Dolan when he was Archbishop of Milwaukee, memories that are still vivid and cherished in our hearts.
I’m excited to tell you that, Tuesday, January 10, I’ll be taping a segment for the Archbishop’s…I mean, Cardinal-designate’s…radio show “A Conversation with the Archbishop.” (Huh. I wonder if they’ll change the name of the show now.) Regardless of what it’s called, I can’t wait to chat with His Excellency-soon-to-be-Eminence and offer my congratulations personally. I’m not sure when the show will air; I’ll keep you posted.
