There before him stood a most beautiful young woman, a Mexican girl who looked like an Aztec princess. She was dressed in an embroidered scarlet gown. Over her head and shoulders hung a deep jade-colored mantle covered with golden stars and she was standing on a maroon crescent, held above the ground by an angel.

Really, there’s not much more that can be said about that, is there? What a most spectacular image of our Blessed Mother! The thing that has always most astounded me about the Guadalupe apparition is the fact that Mary appeared as a Mexican girl – as one of the “locals”, so to say. So much does she love her children that she can appear as one of them so as to assure them that she loves them exactly as they are, because they are who they are. Magnificent!
