Waiting from of Old
Who announced this from the beginning and foretold it from of old? Was it not I, the Lord, besides whom there is no other God? There is no just and saving God but me. Turn to me and be safe, all you ends of the earth, for I am God; there is no other! (Is 45:21-22)
So it was with the Israelites. Forty years in the desert, captivity, exile, wars, tribulations…and yet somehow things seemed to work out in the end. The God of old saw them through every trial just as he sees us through every trial today.
How many times have I been involved in a situation that I felt certain would turn out for the worst? Nothing seemed to be going right; everything was set up for disaster. Or so I thought. God had something else in mind. Perhaps things didn’t turn out the way I wanted, but somehow they seemed to work out in the end.
Mary, knowing the history of Israel gave you the courage to say yes to the trials that the God of old would ask of you. Please help me to see my own history in the same light and have the confidence that somehow things will work out in the end.
