On April 12, something magnificent will happen.
Power in My Hands, a new film created by the Rosary Evangelization Apostolate will have its World Premiere at 7pmCT at the Miller High Life Thearer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It will be preceded with a free concert by Catholic singer and songwriter, Anna Nuzzo. Other premieres will occur in cities throughout the country in the coming weeks.
The 80-minute film has been in the making since 2015 and features a cast that includes some of the most noted Catholic evangelists in the United States – Fr. Donald Calloway, Jeff Cavins, Kelly Wahlquist, Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers, Doug Barry and more. It also features Los Angeles Chargers Quarterback Philip Rivers. Executive Producer and Screenwriter Mandli, Directors John Shoemaker and Ryan Freng, and Producer Julia Smith are the artisans behind the production and Rosary Evangelization Apostolate Founders and Directors Dick and Terry Boldin are the heart, mind, and soul of it.
I’m fortunate to have had the opportunity to do a Q&A with the Boldins to find out more about the Rosary Evangelization Apostolate and the film itself.
Q: How, where and when did the Rosary Evangelization Apostolate start?
A: The Apostolate was founded in Milwaukee on January 31, 2003 when we met with then-Archbishop Timothy Dolan of Milwaukee who approved and became the Episcopal Advisor from 2003 until he left to become the Archbishop of New York in 2009. His successor, Archbishop Jerome E. Listecki, became the Episcopal Advisor for the Apostolate and remains so.
Q: What’s your motivation behind the Rosary Evangelization Apostolate?
A: Our motivation, or objective, is to help the faithful encounter Jesus Christ through Our Lady and her rosary and to help bring about a culture based on Christian values and foster peace.
Q: How are you funded?
A: Donations from the good will of people.
Q: How and when did the idea for Power in My Hands come about?
A: The Rosary Evangelization Apostolate organized the National 54 Day Rosary Novenas in 2014 and 2015. The response was fruitful and amazing as many dioceses, organizations, and individuals across the country responded to this plea for peace and the family, human life, marriage and religious freedom to help provide a message of hope in response to the spiritual crisis in our culture. This in turn in 2015 brought forth the idea of producing a major film on the Rosary which Archbishop Jerome Listecki of Milwaukee graciously and zealously approved.
Q: What’s unique about this film?
A: This film is a story of hope and the power of the prayer of the Rosary which to our knowledge has not been done in a feature length film before. With an All-Star cast, Power In My Hands provides captivating personal stories as well as expert teaching of what the Rosary is truly all about – an encounter with Jesus Christ – which will engage the heart of the viewer. This film unveils the solution to the prevailing spiritual crisis. The solution is Jesus Christ and the key to the solution is Our Lady through her rosary for individuals, families, communities, America, and humanity.
Q: What’s the game plan going forward?
A: Regional premieres beginning with the World Premiere in Milwaukee on April 12 followed by 5 other premieres in different regions of the country. Other showings will be available upon request for dioceses, parishes, organizations, and other groups. Everyone should visit the film websitewww.powerinmyhandsthemovie.com for premiere dates and how to arrange for other showings. The film will become available on DVD sometime later in 2018. It is our hope that the film will also be broadcast on television.
Q: What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned or experienced in the process?
A: Each day we hear from individuals across America and even from other countries who express, not just their interest in the film, but also the need for this film for our times. It is the silent faithful who are echoing the need to turn to prayer in the face of such turmoil in the culture.
Q: What benefits do you hope the Church will gain from Power in My Hands?
A: The film, Power in My Hands, by the grace and power of the Holy Spirit, will help to provide hope to a culture which at times shows forth darkness. In the words of Archbishop Listecki: “This new film project will help bring about spiritual renewal in our nation through the maternal and powerful intercession of Our Lady.”
