Holy, Rosary! The Lightweight Weapon with Heavy-Duty Power

Rosary

Oh, October, October, October! You marvelous month! No only is October filled with the blazing color of turning leaves and crisp mornings here in the Midwest, but it it’s also the month of my wedding anniversary, my first-born’s birthday and…wait for it…

The month of the Holy Rosary!

In terms of great things to anticipate, it doesn’t get a whole lot better than that.

According to Alan de la Roch, a fifth-century Dominica, our Blessed Mother appeared to St. Dominic in 1206 as he was praying for grace and guidance in combating the Albigensian heresy. Mary praised him for his courage and dedication and gave him the Rosary as a powerful weapon in the fight against heresy and instructed him to teach the Rosary to others and promote the spread of its devotion.

St. Dominic did an awesome job, because devotion to the Rosary did indeed spread.

But, it needs to spread more!

Humans being what we are, we waver in our earnestness and slack off in our disciplines. Thanks be to God, we have his mercy and access to grace through the intercession of Our Lady of the Rosary, our very own Mother Mary!

Let’s resolve to rekindle the flames and reignite devotion to the holy Rosary this month, shall we? For a sacramental that sits so light in the hand, it weighs heavily as a mighty weapon on all things evil and discouraging.

Consider what Fatima seer, Sr. Lucia dos Santos said about the Rosary:

“The Most Holy Virgin in these last times in which we live has given a new efficacy to the recitation of the rosary to such an extent that there is no problem, no matter how difficult it is, whether temporal or above all spiritual, in the personal life of each one of us, of our families…that cannot be solved by the Rosary. There is no problem, I tell you, no matter how difficult it is, that we cannot resolve by the prayer of the Holy Rosary.”

Since she spoke to our Blessed Mother face-to-face, you’d think she’d know what she’s talking about, right?

So, take up your beads and follow me throughout this month as we discover the multi-faceted wonders of this heavy-duty weapon, the Holy Rosary! Commit yourself to praying one extra Rosary (okay, at least one extra decade) a day for the intentions of our Blessed Mother Mary as she’s so often asked of us in her many apparitions throughout the centuries.

Looking forward to praying with you this month!
