This amazing Church of ours

This morning, I ran across this video about The Church Up Close. It was posted July 7, 2014 and features Fr. John Wauck, Professor in the School of Church Communcations at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross. Fr. Wauck does an excellent job of explaining exactly what The Church Read more

The Church Up Close – Rome, here I come!

Rome, Vatican City, St. Peter's Basilica, Pope Francis, The Church Up Close

Well, folks, I’m off to Rome.

I’ve been accepted to The Church Up Close, a program run by the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross for foreign journalists who cover the Roman Catholic Church. It will take place at the university September 8-14, 2014. Yep, we’re talking Vatican here.

The theme of this intense, week-long seminar is “Covering Catholicism in the Age of Francis,” and I’ll be studying with journalists from around the world, learning from highly (more…)

The irresistable Ms. Daisy

MOMMYLADY - WIN_20140706_154004

Ms. Daisy is becoming pretty popular these days. That’s partly my fault, since I love to post on my social media about the adventures of our lhasa apso-poodle mix. She’s just…fun. Her playfulness is contagious and her affectionate nature is capable of melting the hearts of even the most hardened dog haters.

She’s also sweet, in the opinion of her “fans.” Of course, I think she’s sweet, but I’m biased. Personal feelings aside, I do find it intriguing that people can pick up on her sweetness even in a pic posted online.  Is it her eyes? The way she holds herself? Regardless, folks are (more…)

The Declaration of Independence is more than a long-ago proclamation of separation from Great Britain, it’s a legacy, left for (more…)

I’ve been learning so much here at the Catholic Media Conference here in Charlotte, North Carolina! Today I learned that actor Jim Caviezel (think Passion of the Christ) is a truly humble man.

At least that’s the impression I and some of my colleagues got when we met him during a private screening of his new film, “When the Game Stands Tall.” The movie is about a high school football coach leading his team on a 151-game winning streak that took place over 12 years.

I can’t tell you about the film right now because (more…)

Marriage takes a hit in the Badger state and praying for families

wedding rings

News broke yesterday that on June 6, U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb ruled that a Wisconsin law defining marriage discriminates against same-sex couples. Crabb’s ruling countered a referendum passed in 2006 by a majority vote. The referendum defined civil marriage as a union oif one man an done woman, stating that legal statuses identical or similar marriage would not be recognized by the state. (more…)
